NGI
Education & Non-Profit2024
Digital Bridge for Educational Empowerment
DesignKey built a donation platform and website for NGI, a global education non-profit. Figma design, Wix development, Stripe integration, and CMS for donor engagement.

/summary
NGI is a global organization supporting educational initiatives across Africa and beyond. Their mission is to provide resources to underprivileged communities by forming strategic local partnerships - connecting schools, non-profits, and corporate sponsors to expand access to education where it is needed most.

/context
NGI's work depended heavily on relationships: with donors who fund programs, with partners who implement them on the ground, and with communities who benefit from them. But their digital presence wasn't keeping pace with their organizational reach. The website they had didn't communicate the depth of their mission, didn't make it easy for supporters to donate, and didn't give NGI a way to keep stakeholders informed about how contributions were being used.
Objectives
Mission Communication
Build a platform that clearly communicates NGI's mission and the impact of their educational programs - so visitors understand what NGI does and why it matters before they're asked to act.
Engagement Enhancement
Create a blog and content management system that gives NGI control over their narrative - publishing program updates, partner stories, and impact reporting without technical support.
Secure Donations
Integrate a reliable, trusted payment system so donors can contribute quickly and with confidence that their information is protected.
Transparency and Reporting
Give NGI the tools to share regular updates with donors and partners, demonstrating how contributions translate into program outcomes.
Partnership Growth
Build a dedicated space for institutional partners and corporate sponsors, giving them resources and visibility that strengthens the relationship beyond the initial agreement.

/process
Discovery and planning
The project started with a thorough discovery phase - working with the NGI team to understand their audiences, their current communication challenges, and the actions they most wanted their website to drive. Three priorities emerged: donations from individual supporters, ongoing engagement from existing donors and partners, and credibility-building for institutional funders evaluating NGI as a partner.
UX and visual design
The design was built in Figma with a mission-aligned visual language: clean, minimal, and focused on content over decoration. The color palette and typographic choices were informed by NGI's existing brand identity, extended into a system that worked across all page types. The homepage was structured to answer the key visitor question - "what does NGI do and why should I care?" - within the first scroll, before presenting any call to action.
Development on Wix
The platform was built on Wix, which was the right choice for NGI's operational context. Wix's CMS gave the NGI team direct control over blog content, program updates, and partnership resources without requiring technical support for day-to-day updates. The infrastructure is managed, so NGI doesn't carry server maintenance overhead. And the platform scales with their traffic without requiring architectural changes as their audience grows.
Testing and deployment
The site went through usability testing focused on the donation flow and navigation structure before launch. Testing confirmed that the checkout process worked correctly across devices and browsers, and that the blog CMS was intuitive enough for the NGI team to operate without a training session. The deployment included a handover session and documentation so NGI could manage the platform independently from day one.

/key features & innovations
Mission-aligned design
A clean, content-focused design with a color system and typographic hierarchy that reflects NGI's values and guides visitors toward understanding the mission before asking for action. No decorative complexity - every visual choice serves communication.
Secure donation system
Stripe integration provides a trusted, PCI-compliant payment experience. The checkout flow was designed to minimize steps and maximize trust signals at the moment of decision - program descriptions, impact statements, and security indicators visible within the donation context.
Blog and content management
A Wix CMS-powered blog gives NGI full control over publishing - program updates, partner stories, impact reports, and news. The NGI team can create, edit, and publish content without technical assistance, keeping the site current and giving donors a reason to return.
Social media integration
Facebook integration connects the site to NGI's social channels, extending the reach of program updates and making it easy for supporters to share NGI's work with their networks.
Partnership portal
A dedicated section for institutional partners and corporate sponsors provides exclusive resources, program documentation, and update access. This gives NGI a digital tool for managing and deepening existing partnerships beyond the initial agreement.
Admin dashboard
A central management interface for NGI to track donations, manage content, and monitor user activity - giving the team visibility across all platform activity in one place.
Automated email integration
Email marketing tools allow NGI to communicate with donors after their first contribution - program updates, impact reports, and campaign announcements - maintaining the relationship and supporting donor retention.
Responsive across devices
The full site - including the donation flow - is accessible and functional on mobile, tablet, and desktop. Non-profit donors include a broad demographic range with varied device preferences, and the responsive build ensures no audience segment is excluded.

/challenges & solutions
Building trust quickly with first-time donors
Non-profit websites have a specific trust challenge: visitors arrive with varying levels of skepticism, and the site has a short window to establish credibility before they leave. The solution was to front-load mission evidence - specific program descriptions, geographic focus, and partner names - before presenting the donation call to action. Trust signals were placed within the checkout flow itself rather than on a separate page, so they were visible at the moment of decision rather than requiring the visitor to navigate back to find them.
Balancing content control with design consistency
NGI needed to update the blog and program content independently, which created a risk of team-generated content breaking the visual design system. The Wix CMS was configured with constrained content templates - NGI can add and edit text and images within defined structures, but cannot inadvertently override the typography or layout decisions that make the site cohesive. This gave the team real editorial control without exposing the design system to drift.

/result & impact
Increased donations
The streamlined donation flow and Stripe integration reduced friction in the giving process, leading to a measurable increase in completed donations supporting educational programs in East Africa.
Enhanced stakeholder engagement
The blog and email integration gave NGI tools to maintain ongoing communication with donors and partners - shifting from a static web presence to an active engagement channel.
Editorial independence
The NGI team can manage all site content - blog posts, program updates, partnership resources - without technical support. This reduces ongoing operational cost and keeps the site current between design engagements.
Scalable infrastructure
The Wix platform handles traffic growth without requiring NGI to manage server infrastructure, and the site architecture supports adding new program sections, languages, or campaign pages as the organization expands.

/future projections and strategic growth
Expanded digital programs
NGI plans to integrate more advanced engagement tools as their donor base grows - including targeted campaign pages for specific educational initiatives and expanded reporting tools that give major donors direct visibility into program outcomes.
Scalability plan
The Wix infrastructure and CMS architecture support NGI's growth without requiring a platform rebuild. As the organization expands into new regions and programs, the site structure can accommodate new sections and content types without disrupting what is already working.

/conclusion
The NGI project is a case study in building a digital platform that serves a mission rather than just representing it. The design, donation flow, and content tools were all built around what NGI actually needed: more donors, stronger partner relationships, and the ability to communicate program impact clearly and consistently. The result is a platform that works as an active fundraising and engagement tool - not just a website.
