Guides - long-form walkthroughs from our team

Longer than a blog post, more opinionated than documentation. Each one starts as an internal question that kept coming up, gets tested on real client work, and only then gets published here with the prompts and screenshots attached.

Two field guides today, both aimed at designers working alongside engineers. More follow as internal questions turn into vetted answers.
Live3-part seriesFor Designers

A three-part field guide for designers who want to generate, explore, and ship component variations without waiting on a developer for every experiment. Real prompts, real screenshots, and the mistakes the first pass made.

LiveStandaloneFor Designers

A standalone field guide to Storybook: how to open it, navigate it, review real page designs in isolation, and feed fixes back to developers without writing code. Illustrated with the Storybook we run for this site.

How this works

How these guides get written

Editorial, not marketing. The content carries the page, and we publish the version we actually use internally.

What these are

Long-form walkthroughs with real screenshots, cheat sheets, and diagrams. Each one is built to be read cover to cover, not skimmed for a snippet.

Who writes them

The Design Key team, usually triggered by an internal question that kept coming up. We publish externally once the answer has been validated on real work.

How to read them

Start at part one and work forward. Every part opens with a short version for readers who bail after the first screen, and closes with a link to what comes next.
